Sam saw the opthamologist on Monday. It was my first solo journey with him. Jackson was having a good time with Grammie and Gramps at Legoland so, sans toddler, the oxygen and apnea monitor (oh, and the baby) were a bit more manageable. The good news is that the doctor could find no structural abnormalities with Sam's eyes. This may extend to even better news since, from my research, eye abnormalities are associated with kidney disease in people with Joubert Syndrome. We're certainly not in the clear yet but we have a bit more to be optimistic about.
